For Distributors and 3PLs

Trading Partner Data for Drug and Device Distribution

Distributors need to verify the partners they buy from and the customers they ship to without slowing down the order process. MedPro provides authoritative licensing and location data, automated shipment authorization and the tools to keep that verification current.

The Challenge

Where Licensing Accountability Meets Order Volume

You are accountable for the license status of the accounts you ship to and the partners you buy from, and both change on someone else’s schedule. Verification has to keep pace with order volume across drug and device lines. The challenges below are the ones we hear most often from distribution organizations.

Trading Partner Checks Upstream and Downstream

The Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) requires the partners you buy from and the accounts you ship to to be Authorized Trading Partners (ATPs). Each needs an FDA registration or state license confirmed at onboarding and again at renewal, from records spread across state boards and federal registries.

Customer Licenses That Change Between Orders

Pharmacies, clinics, hospitals and practitioners renew, lapse, relocate and lose or regain controlled substance credentials on their own schedules. A license that cleared at account setup can be expired by the next order, and a manual check before each release can’t keep pace with order volume.

State Rules Layered on Federal Ones

Ohio Terminal Distributor of Dangerous Drugs (TDDD), Florida Health Care Clinic Establishment (HCCE) and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration (MCSR) each add a check before product ships. Across a national customer base, knowing which rule applies where, and whether the address holds the license, is a workload of its own.

GLN Location Data for DSCSA Transaction Records

DSCSA transaction information carries location data as Global Location Numbers (GLNs), while your licensing records run on State License Numbers (SLNs). Matching the two for every ship-to and ship-from location is a crosswalk your team has to build and keep current, or source from someone who has.

Our Solutions

How MedPro Can Support Your Organization

MedPro gives you the licensing and location data to verify both sides of a shipment, keeps it current on your schedule and delivers it into the order management and ERP systems your operation runs on.

Verify Suppliers and Customers From One Authoritative Source

MedProID puts the license, address and identifier data for your suppliers and your customers in one database, sourced from state licensing boards, federal registries and industry sources. Healthcare Organization (HCO) coverage runs from manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors to retail pharmacies, hospitals, clinics and long-term care facilities, across drug and device lines. Your team confirms a supplier’s authorization and a customer’s license from the same lookup.

Key Capabilities for Distributors

  • 35M+ Healthcare Professional (HCP) and HCO records, including 1.4M+ HCO records, sourced from state, federal and industry registries
  • License status, expiration and controlled substance credential data for ship-to destinations
  • Wholesale distributor and third-party logistics provider (3PL) licensing data for upstream trading partner checks

Shipment Authorization Kept Current Across Your Customer Base

ProSync® tracks license status, expiration, sanctions and professional designation across your customer and trading partner universe and returns a yes or no shipment authorization value for each account, built on your business rules. Device lines get the same treatment as an Eligibility value. Updates land daily, weekly or on your schedule by File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or API, and an account that lapses between orders is flagged before the next release.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) requires that prescription drugs move only between Authorized Trading Partners (ATPs): manufacturers, repackagers, wholesale distributors, third-party logistics providers (3PLs) and dispensers that hold a valid FDA registration or the state license their role requires. As a distributor you confirm authorization for the partners you receive product from and the customers you ship to. MedProID supplies the state licensing data behind that check for each partner type, including repackagers, 3PLs and reverse distributors in the states that license them as distinct entities.

Search MedProID by State License Number, NPI or address to confirm the customer's license status, expiration date and controlled substance credential, along with any state-specific requirement for that address such as Ohio TDDD or Florida HCCE. For ongoing accounts, ProSync repeats the check on your schedule and returns a yes or no authorization value into your order system.

State License Numbers (SLNs) identify a licensed entity to its state board. Global Location Numbers (GLNs) identify a physical location in the GS1 system that DSCSA transaction data uses. MedPro's crosswalk links the two. A licensed ship-to or ship-from location is reported by GLN while verification runs on the license. The crosswalk holds 250,000+ matched associations and is available through ProFocus.

MedProID carries Ohio Terminal Distributor of Dangerous Drugs (TDDD) license data, Florida Health Care Clinic Establishment (HCCE) data and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration (MCSR) data, updated from the state sources and available through ProFocus.

MedProID connects through API access, bulk file delivery and scheduled exports. ProAccess® Partner Integrations add pre-built connections with supported platforms. Verification runs at order entry or on a schedule you set, and MedPro's implementation team supports the connection from design through go-live.

Yes. The same MedProID database covers the practitioners and facilities that receive medical devices, and ProSync returns an Eligibility value for device lines calculated on license status, expiration, sanctions and professional designation under your business rules. DSCSA-specific checks, Authorized Trading Partner verification and GLN location data, apply to your prescription drug lines.
